JioHotstar and Banijay Asia have dropped the trailer of ‘The Trial: Pyaar, Kaanoon, Dhokha’S2, headlined by Kajol, which will premiere on September 19, 2025.
Adapted from CBS Studios’ acclaimed series ‘The Good Wife’, the Indian courtroom drama continues to strengthen the platform’s premium content play, blending legal intrigue with personal conflict.
Directed by Umesh Bist, the series is produced by Banijay Asia under Deepak Dhar and forms part of JioStar Studios’ evolving slate of locally resonant but globally styled content.
Season 2 picks up after Noyonika Sengupta (Kajol) re-entered law following her husband’s corruption scandal in Season 1. The new chapter raises the emotional and professional stakes as she battles rivalries within her law firm, navigates her husband Rajiv’s (Jisshu Sengupta) growing political ambitions, and confronts a complicated love triangle. The narrative shifts the focus inward, unraveling Noyonika’s vulnerabilities even as she projects strength in court.
Kajol described the role as her “most personal yet,” stating that the season dives “darker, deeper, and more emotionally charged.” Director Bist called it “a layered story about power, identity, and the personal cost of standing up for oneself.”
Alongside Kajol and Jisshu Sengupta, the series features Sonali Kulkarni, Sheeba Chaddha, Alyy Khan, Kubbra Sait, Gaurav Pandey, and Karanvir Sharma. The creative team emphasized a balance between sharp courtroom drama and the personal dilemmas of its characters.
JioStar Studios’ Alok Jain positioned the show as a part of a broader content universe challenging narratives of choice and identity. Sushant Sreeram noted how the Indian adaptation of The Good Wife underscores JioHotstar’s strategy of reimagining international IPs for local audiences.
Banijay Asia CEO Deepak Dhar said, “Season 2 is designed to raise the stakes further with higher intensity, stronger performances, and a gripping narrative that will connect with audiences across India.”
With this series, JioHotstar continues to bank on marquee talent and international storytelling formats to deepen its premium offering amid rising competition in the Indian OTT market. As courtroom dramas gain traction for their blend of social commentary and entertainment, ‘The Trial’ positions itself to capture a growing segment seeking layered, character-driven narratives.
The second season of ‘The Trial: Pyaar, Kaanoon, Dhokha’ premieres September 19, 2025, exclusively on JioHotstar.
