News18 Tamil Nadu has announced that it will go completely break-free from 7 am to 10 am during the morning prime-time hours. The initiative ensures uninterrupted news coverage, enabling viewers to follow the day’s top headlines without any commercial breaks and maintaining their attention through the most impactful stories.
According to a press release from the news network, this uninterrupted three-hour slot is designed to keep audiences focused and connected, while also offering advertisers a unique advantage. With no ad breaks during prime time, brands get premium visibility when commercials air immediately after the break-free segment, at a time when audience attention is at its highest. The channel claims this format not only boosts recall but also strengthens brand association and trust.
The press note further highlights that this approach benefits both viewers and advertisers as viewers enjoy a seamless news experience, while advertisers gain from enhanced retention and stronger impact.
Apart from the break-free initiative, News18 Tamil Nadu has been experimenting with unique formats to engage audiences. Its weekly podcast, ‘Disco with KS’, hosted by Editor Karthigaichelvan, is billed as the first of its kind among Tamil news channels.
The show features conversations with bureaucrats, industry leaders, and young achievers, targeting youth across Tamil Nadu and the global Tamil diaspora. Each episode reportedly garners over 100,000 views, while its short video clips consistently go viral, attracting over three million views on social media, with around 25 percent of the audience watching from outside India.
Another notable segment is ‘Decode – The World Unfiltered’, which offers clear explanations and deeper insights into national and global events, going beyond the headlines to provide context.
