After earning critical acclaim in theatres, ‘Narivetta’, the searing Malayalam action-drama headlined by Tovino Thomas, is all set for its digital premiere on Sony LIV starting July 11. Directed by Anuraj Manohar, the film makes its OTT debut following a successful theatrical run earlier this year.
‘Narivetta’ is a poignant tale of duty, identity, and defiance, woven through the character of Varghese — a young, upright government officer whose moral compass is put to the test after being posted in Wayanad. The region, simmering with unrest, becomes the backdrop for a fierce protest led by Adivasi communities, demanding land rights long promised and continually denied by the State. What begins as a routine government assignment spirals into a life-altering confrontation with systemic injustice, forcing Varghese to question everything he stands for.
Speaking about the film’s digital release, Tovino Thomas said, “Narivetta is one of the most intense and emotionally layered films I’ve been part of. It’s not just a story, it’s a reflection of struggles, resistance, and the fight for dignity. I’m grateful for the overwhelming response it received in theatres, and now I’m truly excited that it’s coming to Sony LIV. This digital release gives more people the chance to experience Varghese’s journey and the powerful message the film carries. It’s a story that needs to be seen, felt, and discussed.”
Produced by Tippu Shah and Shiyas Hassan under the India Cinema Company banner, Narivetta features a powerful supporting cast including Suraj Venjaramoodu, Cheran, Arya Salim, Priyamvada Krishnan, and Pranav Theophine. N M Badusha serves as the executive producer, while the intense and emotionally charged score is composed by Jakes Bejoy, known for his immersive background work in socially conscious cinema.
Blending social realism with gripping storytelling, ‘Narivetta’ is being praised for its grounded narrative, raw performances, and uncompromising portrayal of tribal resistance. Director Anuraj Manohar, known for his nuanced handling of complex subjects, brings a layered and empathetic lens to the screenplay — turning a story of bureaucratic assignment into one of rebellion, awareness, and self-transformation.
With its Sony LIV debut, the film is expected to reach a wider national audience, sparking fresh conversations on indigenous rights, governance, and the price of standing up for what’s right.
