The film, starring veterans Sanjay Mishra and Victor Banerjee, is set to release in theatres across India on July 18, 2025.

At its core, ‘5th September’ revisits the familiar world of a modest English-medium school where a seemingly routine Teachers’ Day football match turns into a symbolic clash of pride, legacy, and redemption. The film has already won accolades across various festivals and now gears up for a wide theatrical release.

The film offers an emotional blend of humour, humility, and heartfelt storytelling. Sanjay Mishra, known for his nuanced portrayals of everyday characters, plays the role of Mishraji — a teacher whose past and present converge on the football field. “We remember heroes in stadiums and on screens — but we forget the ones who taught us how to walk, speak, and dream,” Mishra shared. “5th September is my salaam to those silent warriors in every classroom. Playing Mishraji wasn’t just acting — it felt like repaying a lifelong debt.”

Victor Banerjee, Brijendra Kala, Atul Srivastava, and Deepraj Rana add emotional gravitas to the story, supported by a lively ensemble including Kavin Dave, Kiran Dubey, Sariika Singh, and Gayatri Bhargavi. The director, Kunal Shamshere Malla, who also plays a pivotal role, describes the project as deeply personal. “This film is not just about football. It’s about respect — for teachers, for ourselves, and for second chances. We wanted to tell a story that brings a smile and maybe even a tear,” he said.

The screenplay is co-written by Kaviraj Singh and Anuradha Pundeer Malla, with music by Red Ribbon and background score by Sidharth Pradeep. The film is also backed by Associate Producer Mohit Srivastava, known for helming the comeback of Zayed Khan in the upcoming TFTNW for Jio Studios.
