Actor Jensen Ackles is set to make a thrilling return to television screens with his upcoming series ‘Countdown’, which will premiere on Prime Video in June. The new action-packed show promises a high-octane blend of suspense, intrigue, and heart-pounding drama, adding to Prime Video’s growing lineup of original content.
According to a PTI report, ‘Countdown’ features Ackles in the lead role as a special agent racing against time to stop a deadly global threat. Known for his charismatic screen presence and memorable performances in ‘Supernatural’ and ‘The Boys’, Ackles takes center stage in this adrenaline-charged narrative that blends espionage and emotional complexity.
The series is being produced by Amazon MGM Studios, with Derek Haas—co-creator of the ‘Chicago’ franchise—serving as showrunner and executive producer. The story kicks off with a suspicious murder linked to a covert government program. Ackles’ character, Special Agent Mark Keene, is pulled back into action and must uncover a deep conspiracy while struggling with personal loss and a fractured past.
Speaking about the project earlier, Ackles described ‘Countdown’ as “a story that grips you from the first minute and doesn’t let go,” adding that he was thrilled to work alongside a talented team and bring such a layered character to life.
With six hour-long episodes in its first season, the series aims to cater to fans of gritty action thrillers while offering enough emotional depth to appeal to a wider audience. Prime Video is expected to release more promotional material and an official trailer in the coming weeks as the release date approaches.
Ackles, who continues to enjoy a strong fan following worldwide, is also attached as an executive producer via Chaos Machine Productions, his company co-run with his wife, Danneel Ackles. ‘Countdown’ is expected to not only showcase his action chops but also reveal a new dimension to his acting prowess.
