The beloved comedy-drama series ‘Panchayat’ is set to return for its fourth season, with Prime Video officially announcing a July 2 release date.
The show, which has garnered immense popularity since its debut in April 2020, will continue to follow the life of Abhishek Tripathi, a young engineering graduate who unexpectedly finds himself navigating the complexities of rural administration, PTI yesterday reported from Mumbai.
Created by The Viral Fever (TVF), ‘Panchayat’ became an instant hit due to its relatable storytelling, witty humour, and an authentic portrayal of life in rural India. With its first season setting the tone, the show expanded its universe in May 2022 with season 2, deepening the connections between the protagonist and the quirky residents of Phulera, a fictional village in Uttar Pradesh.
The third season, which premiered last year, was met with both critical and audience acclaim, leaving fans eagerly awaiting the next chapter in Abhishek’s journey.
At the heart of Panchayat is Jitendra Kumar’s portrayal of Abhishek, an educated but reluctant panchayat (village administration) secretary, who initially sees the job as a temporary solution, but soon finds himself entangled in the politics, relationships and daily struggles of Phulera. Alongside him, Raghubir Yadav, Neena Gupta, Chandan Roy and Faisal Malik bring depth and humour to the show, playing memorable characters that have now become household favourites.
The previous seasons left audiences with several unanswered questions —will Abhishek finally accept Phulera as his home, or will he move on? How will the ongoing rivalry between Pradhan Ji and Bhushan unfold? And what’s next for Abhishek’s subtle yet growing equation with Rinki, played by Sanvikaa? The upcoming season is expected to dive deeper into these storylines while maintaining the slice-of-life humour and social commentary that has defined the show.
With Deepak Kumar Mishra at the helm as director and Chandan Kumar as the writer, ‘Panchayat’ has managed to strike the right balance between comedy, drama, and realism, making it one of India’s most celebrated web series.
