The trailer for ‘2020 Delhi’, India’s first single-shot full-length Hindi feature film, has been released, offering a gripping glimpse into the turmoil surrounding the 2020 Delhi riots.
The film sheds light on the communal unrest, political conspiracies, and the plight of ordinary citizens who found themselves caught in the violence that swept through the National Capital in February 2020, IANS reported.
Set against the backdrop of the anti-CAA protests in Shaheen Bagh, the narrative unfolds on February 24, 2020, a day that saw two starkly contrasting events Donald Trump‘s high-profile visit to India for the ‘Namaste Trump’ event, and the riots that tragically claimed the lives of 53 people. The film captures the chaos and horror of that day through the lens of a single shot, offering a raw and immersive experience.
Devendra Maalviya, the director, shared the challenges of using the single-shot technique, saying, “Capturing the intensity of such devastating riots in a single-shot format was a massive challenge. This film proves that when creativity and determination come together, even the most ambitious goals can be achieved.” He explained that this method requires perfect synchronization across screenplay, choreography, acting, lighting, and set design, providing a truly immersive experience for the audience.
The film features an ensemble cast, including Brijendra Kala, Samar Jai Singh, Sidharth Bhardwaj, Bhoopesh Singh, Chetan Sharm, and Akash Arora, among others. Produced by Midas Touch Films, in collaboration with Countryboy Films and Visual Birds Studio, ‘2020 Delhi’ promises to be a cinematic exploration of one of the most defining and tragic events in recent Indian history.
This groundbreaking film is set to release on 2nd February 2025, making it a highly anticipated addition to Indian cinema. ‘2020 Delhi’ will also join the ranks of Hollywood films like ‘1917’ and ‘Birdman,’ which have previously utilized this complex and expensive filmmaking technique.
