Amazon MX Player is set to captivate audiences with its latest coming-of-age drama, Karate Girls. Premiering on December 13, 2024, this compelling series revolves around the intertwined lives of two young girls, Komal and Abha, who embark on a transformative journey through the world of karate.
Created by Dice Media, the show stars Ashlesha Thakur, Celesti Bairagey, Manav Gohil, Meiyang Chang, Chirag Katrecha, and Rohan Joshi.
Set against the vibrant backdrop of Nashik, ‘Karate Girls’ explores themes of love, loyalty, and self-discovery. The trailer introduces a rivalry between Komal and Abha as they cross paths at Navodaya, a karate training academy run by Abha’s father. Initially clashing due to their contrasting personalities, the two are forced to unite for a greater purpose—only to face each other as competitors in the Nashik Karate Federation Tournament. Representing rival dojos, Navodaya and Firebolt, the duo is pushed to question their beliefs and motives.
Amogh Dusad, Head of Content at Amazon MX Player, shared his excitement about the show:
“We’re thrilled to present Karate Girls, a story that celebrates the strength of female friendship and the unyielding determination of two young girls passionate about karate. Their journey is one of resilience, growth, and forging unbreakable bonds as they step into adulthood.”
Janaki Amrite, Associate VP – OTT Partnerships at Dice Media, added, “Karate Girls is an empowering tale of resilience, friendship, and self-discovery. As Dice Media’s first sports action drama, this series holds a special place for us. It tells the story of two small-town girls who are both relatable and aspirational, defying expectations and challenging the status quo. We’re proud to bring this uplifting narrative to audiences in association with Amazon MX Player.”
Manav Gohil, who plays Ajay Sensei, remarked on the transformative experience of revisiting karate:
“Being a trained Muay Thai and Karate practitioner, I was excited to bring my skills to Karate Girls. My character, Ajay Sensei, embodies discipline and aims to bring about societal change. Viewers will enjoy the twists and turns in this gripping narrative.”
Ashlesha Thakur, portraying Komal, expressed her gratitude for the physically demanding role:
“Komal’s character embodies courage and determination, inspiring self-belief and resilience. This role expanded my scope as an actor, and I’m honored to bring her journey to life.”
Celesti Bairagey, who plays Abha, shared, “Portraying Abha allowed me to connect deeper with myself. From learning karate to portraying a range of emotions, this series has been a rewarding experience.”
Meiyang Chang, as the enigmatic Sensei JD, highlighted his character’s complex nature,
“JD is the menacing dark cloud of the series—shrewd, manipulative, and unrelenting. It’s rare to come across such stories that delve deep into emotions and relationships against the backdrop of an exciting sport.”
‘Karate Girls’ will be available to stream exclusively on Amazon MX Player starting December 13, 2024. Accessible through mobile apps, the Amazon shopping app, Prime Video, Fire TV, and connected TVs, the series promises a thrilling and emotional ride for viewers of all ages
