Shah Rukh Khan, Saif Ali Khan, and Preity Zinta’s iconic romantic drama, ‘Kal Ho Naa Ho,’ has struck a nostalgic chord with audiences, enjoying a strong run since its re-release on November 15, 2024, exactly 21 years after its original debut.
Despite minimal promotions, the film has managed to charm moviegoers, earning an impressive Rs. 3.15 crore on its 10th day, with weekend growth boosting its two-week total collections.
Directed by Nikhil Advani and produced by Karan Johar, the film’s legendary songs like ‘Pretty Woman,’ ‘Maahi Ve,’ and the title track, composed by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, continue to captivate.
In a surprising clash of nostalgia, Shah Rukh Khan’s other classic, ‘Karan Arjun,’ re-released on November 22, fell behind. The Salman Khan and SRK reincarnation drama, originally released in 1995, earned Rs. 1.08 crore during its opening weekend, trailing behind ‘Kal Ho Naa Ho.’
With the absence of major new releases following the Diwali showdown between ‘Singham Again’ and ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3,’ re-releases and mid-level films are taking center stage. Films like ‘The Sabarmati Report,’ which has crossed Rs. 23.46 crore, are capitalizing on the quieter box office landscape.
The year’s next major release, ‘Pushpa 2,’ starring Allu Arjun, Rashmika Mandanna, and Fahadh Faasil, is slated for a grand release on December 5, 2024. Until then, re-releases like ‘Kal Ho Naa Ho’ are delighting audiences and adding a touch of nostalgia to the box office.
