Following the massive success of ‘Kantara’, the team behind the Kannada blockbuster has announced the much-anticipated prequel, set to release on October 2, 2025.
Timed to coincide with the festive celebration of Dussehra, the film promises to delve deeper into the origins of the story that captivated audiences across India and beyond.
Actor-director Rishab Shetty will reprise his dual role as lead actor and director while also penning the script for the ambitious prequel. Known for his powerful storytelling and authentic performances, Shetty has once again committed to elevating his craft. To prepare for his role, he has undergone intensive training in Kalaripayattu, an ancient martial art from Kerala, ensuring his performance resonates with authenticity and tradition.
The announcement was made on X (formerly Twitter) by production house Hombale Films, known for hits like KGF and Kantara. The prequel aims to attract a global audience, building on the pan-India success of its predecessor.
The prequel will transport audiences further into the rich, mystical world of Kantara, blending folklore, tradition, and an emotional narrative with the grandeur of Indian cinema. The film is set in a period setting, exploring the roots of the village and its spiritual legacy, promising a cinematic experience steeped in cultural depth.
With the prequel, Hombale Films is aiming to expand its reach to international audiences, showcasing India’s vibrant storytelling traditions and cultural heritage on a global stage.
Fans eagerly await the prequel, which not only continues the legacy of Kantara but also deepens the connection to its cultural and spiritual themes. Mark your calendars for October 2, 2025, as ‘Kantara: Chapter 1’ prequel promises to be another landmark in Indian cinema.
