Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, on his recent visit to India, expressed a keen interest in strengthening ties with the Indian film industry, marking what he called “the beginning of a process of closer collaboration between the two filmmaking communities.”
During a meeting in Mumbai on October 29, Sanchez met with key members of the Producers Guild of India (PGI), including Shibasish Sarkar, PGI president and Group CEO of Reliance Entertainment, along with notable figures like Aashish Singh (Red Chillies Entertainment), Ankur Garg (Luv Films), Shiv Chanana (T-Series), Nitin Tej Ahuja (CEO of PGI), and Akshaye Widhani (Yash Raj Films), PTI has reported.
The meeting was also attended by Spain’s First Lady Begona Gomez, Minister for Industry and Tourism Jordi Hereu Boher, and Minister for Transportation and Sustainable Mobility Oscar Puente, alongside Dinesh Patnaik, the Indian Ambassador to Spain.
Sanchez emphasized the significance of collaborative opportunities between Spain and India’s film industries, particularly as both countries seek to leverage each other’s strengths in filmmaking.
Sarkar highlighted the Indian film industry’s diverse scale and multilingual approach, explaining the factors that drive Indian filmmakers to choose specific international locations, offering Spain a unique opportunity to attract Indian productions.
The discussions aim to facilitate future collaborations that could enhance cultural exchange and expand global reach for both Spanish and Indian cinema.
