WhatsApp has released a new music video featuring Bollywood actor Abhay Deol as part of its ongoing privacy campaign, designed to boost scam awareness and educate users on staying safe online.
The video, a revamped version of the classic Bollywood track ‘Oye Lucky Lucky Oye’, was developed in collaboration with BBDO India and aims to blend entertainment with education, reaching audiences through a nostalgic twist, The Economic Times reported.
The campaign encourages users to utilize WhatsApp’s safety features and exercise caution to protect against common scams like fake job offers, impersonation fraud, and OTP phishing.
Abhay Deol expressed his excitement, saying, “It’s special to bring back ‘Oye Lucky Lucky Oye’ with a new purpose—raising awareness about online safety. Working with WhatsApp on this makes it even more meaningful. We’re entertaining while also educating users on crucial security tips.”
Vyom Prashant, Director of Consumer Marketing at Meta, added, “Privacy and safety are core to our mission at WhatsApp. This music video offers a memorable way to reinforce safe user habits, making our security tools intuitive.”
Josy Paul of BBDO India highlighted the creative approach, stating, “We reworked this catchy Bollywood song to connect with users, using music’s power to convey an important message that resonates with everyday online experiences.”
The campaign follows WhatsApp’s privacy initiative launched in July, underlining the platform’s commitment to user safety and equipping people with the tools and awareness to safeguard their online presence.
