Spotify is expanding its family-oriented services with a new pilot program tailored for younger listeners. The streaming platform has launched a Premium music account specifically designed for children under 13, available exclusively through its Premium Family plan in Denmark, New Zealand, and Sweden.
This managed account feature offers young users the chance to enjoy music with personalized recommendations, including the discovery of new artists. Parents and guardians will have greater control over the content their children can access. They can restrict features like Canvas, videos, and manage explicit content. Additionally, a new control option allows parents to select specific artists and tracks that their children can listen to.
A key benefit of this managed account is the separation of music preferences, ensuring that children’s listening habits won’t affect the main account holder’s personalized recommendations or Wrapped results.
Families in the available regions can set up the managed account by navigating to the Spotify app, selecting “Add a listener aged under 13,” and following the instructions. This offering complements Spotify Kids, a separate app designed for younger users, which is available in these three countries as well as 11 others.
Both options aim to provide a safe and enjoyable listening experience for children, emphasizing the importance of entering the child’s correct age during the setup process.
