Sushant Sreeram, the country director for Prime Video India, has resigned from his position and is poised to join Viacom18-owned JioCinema as Chief Marketing Officer (CMO), according to The Economic Times.
Sreeram was promoted to Prime Video India country director in February 2023 after Gaurav Gandhi’s promotion to Vice President of Asia Pacific at Prime Video. Sreeram initially joined Prime Video in 2018 as Head of Customer and Brand Marketing, later becoming Director of Marketing in October 2020. In 2022, he was elevated to Director of Subscription Video on Demand (SVOD) Business, where he focused on growing and engaging subscribers across both B2B and B2C segments.
Before his tenure at Amazon, Sreeram held marketing leadership roles at Xiaomi India, HolidayIQ.com, eBay, Inkfruit.com, and Hindustan Unilever.
Prime Video India and Viacom18 have declined to comment on the transition.
This move follows other significant shifts within Prime Video India. Nikhil Madhok was recently promoted to head of India originals for Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios, succeeding Aparna Purohit. Madhok joined Prime Video from Disney+ Hotstar, where he led the development of original content.
Sreeram’s departure comes at a time when Prime Video India is gearing up for an intense programming schedule in 2024. The streaming service launched a significant content slate in 2023, featuring 24 original scripted and unscripted shows. Globally, Amazon invested close to $17 billion in content across TV, film, music, and live sports in 2022.
Prime Video India aims to solidify its position as an entertainment hub, offering a variety of services across streaming, OTT aggregation, and movie rentals.
