Disney Star, the official broadcaster of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, has kicked off the ‘Visa To World Cup’ week, aiming to spotlight the emerging talents from the ongoing IPL and assess their potential inclusion in India’s final 15-man squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup.
The broadcaster announced that it will leverage the expertise of its StarCast to offer viewers insightful narratives, analyses, and strategic predictions regarding the composition of the Indian contingent. With a focus on storytelling and discussions, Disney Star aims to smoothly transition from the IPL to the T20 World Cup, making each match and player’s performance pivotal in the selection process.
As the Tata IPL 2024 reaches its halfway mark, Disney Star revealed impressive viewership figures. According to recent data released by BARC, the broadcaster achieved a cumulative reach of 47.5 crore viewers, accompanied by a staggering 24500 crore minutes of total watch time, marking an 18 percent growth in consumption compared to the previous edition.
Additionally, Disney Star reported a 5 percent growth in TV reach for live broadcasts compared to the previous highest recorded in 2019. The broadcaster also witnessed a notable 19 percent increase in TVR (Television Rating) for the first 34 matches compared to the previous edition.
One of the standout moments in the tournament was the intense clash between MI and CSK during the #IPLonStar rivalry week. The match, won by CSK at Wankhede, garnered massive attention, with 6.3 crore concurrent viewers on TV during MS Dhoni’s electrifying performance (20 runs off 4 balls), marking the highest concurrency for any league game across the current and previous seasons.
The Star Sports Shor Meter during MI vs CSK also peaked at 131 decibels, the highest recorded for this season. The clash of the champions emerged as the most highly-rated league stage match, outside of the pandemic years, attracting 17.4 crore viewers on TV with a total watch time of 1540 crore minutes on April 14, 2024.
