In a recent announcement, WhatsApp expanded its functionality for Android users by rolling out the’search by date’ feature for personal and group chats.
Previously available on platforms like iOS, Mac desktop, and WhatsApp Web, this feature now allows Android users to search for specific messages, photos, or videos sent on a particular date.
Mark Zuckerberg, the co-founder and CEO of Meta, the parent company of Facebook, shared the news on his WhatsApp channel. In a video demonstration, he showcased the new feature while expressing excitement about the convenience it brings to users.
“When you realize you’ve got the perfect response in an old chat…” Zuckerberg remarked, referring to his own experience of searching for an old chat about Karaoke. He credited WhatsApp’s new ‘search by date’ feature for the improved functionality.
However, it’s worth noting that users can search for chats on a specific date, but the feature does not currently support searching within a date range. WhatsApp highlighted the practical application of the feature, stating it’s “ideal for revisiting a message that made you smile or double-checking when you sent information to someone, making your chats easier to navigate.”
The company also reminded users of other search capabilities within chats, including media, links, and documents.
With this new addition, WhatsApp continues to enhance the user experience, making it more efficient for individuals to locate and retrieve specific information within their chat histories.
