Premiering on December 22, ‘Curry & Cyanide – The Jolly Joseph Case’ signifies India Today Originals’ second collaboration with Netflix India and its third venture into the OTT realm.
This true-crime documentary delves deep into the bone-chilling narrative surrounding Jolly Joseph – a mother, wife, daughter, and alleged murderer. Set in a serene Kerala town, the film unravels a series of unexpected deaths, all tied to a talkative, churchgoing, and highly esteemed neighbor.
The spotlight on Koodathai deaths in Kerala initially stunned the nation, primarily due to the prime suspect’s profile. Jolly Joseph, twice married, once widowed, a mother of two, and dearly beloved by both family and community, stood accused of poisoning six family members, including a two-year-old child.
The documentary dissects the illusion of normalcy within the Indian middle-class family, raising poignant questions about the concept of family and trust. It resonates with many who echo the sentiment that “she could have belonged in my family.”
Produced by India Today Originals, the film is helmed by National Award winner Christo Tomy, edited by the US-based post-production house – Union Editorial, and penned by National Award-winning writer Shalini Usha Bhagat.
Through firsthand testimonials, the documentary aims to unravel the web of lies spun by Jolly and uncover the chilling truth hidden beneath. It prompts audiences to contemplate the fragile nature of human connections and the unsettling mysteries concealed within seemingly ordinary lives.
