In a triumphant win at the 54th International Film Festival of India (IFFI), the thought-provoking short film ‘Odh’ claimed the top spot in the ’75 Creative Minds of Tomorrow’ film challenge.
This recognition comes as the film captivated audiences with its compelling take on the vanishing beach lines in Goa.
As per a press release, launched by Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Singh Thakur, the film challenge brought together 75 participants organized into five teams. Their task: to craft short films within a tight 48-hour timeframe, all centered around the theme ‘Mission Life.’
Expressing his vision for the initiative, Minister Thakur emphasized its mission to nurture and empower burgeoning talents across diverse filmmaking domains. This endeavor, now in its third year, debuted in 2021 as part of the ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ celebrations, commemorating India’s 75th year of Independence.
The winning film, ‘Odh,’ skillfully unfolds the narrative of a fisherman navigating his boat through the city in a quest for parking space. His lamentations echo a poignant truth: the theft of beaches and the consequential lack of space for his vessel. Addressing the alarming issue of receding coastlines in Goa, the film resonates with the escalating sea levels and the encroaching construction plaguing these once-pristine shores.
With its powerful storytelling, ‘Odh’ emerges not only as an award recipient but also as a poignant commentary on Goa’s environmental challenges, resonating deeply with viewers and critics alike.
