UK based Luca productions which produced Robot 2.0 – most expensive regional/Hindi film 3 years ago has now announced a partnership with more than 8-10 creative producers and directors including names like Karan Johar, Anand Rai, Dinesh Vijan, Mani Ratnam , Rajkumar Hirani, Sanjay Leela Bhansali and many more; we believe these partnerships will be spread across various models like 1) co production 2) outright purchase of ready films
Impact
We believe this is a very big positive as it will allow flow of large budget content into Hindi and regional film industry; it will also help fill the gap of Fox Star Studios as post the acquisition of Disney , the former has halted its film production arm in india. Good news for the exhibitor industry specially multiplexes as it ensures ample large scale content supply for CY22 and beyond. Continue to believe that studio based model is a big positive and will create a delta in terms of the ambitious projects that can be made. Indian film industry still has a long way to go in terms of potential as only 10% of the revenue for a film on an average is overseas; further, the digital rights premium even after cinematic release will continue to increase for this kind of large scale content made by studios which has a very big universal demand globally.
