The much-anticipated teaser of the poignant social drama ‘Safed’ was revealed on Thursday, leaving audiences deeply moved. The film sheds light on the lives of those oppressed by societal norms, while bringing to the forefront a remarkable love story that transcends all barriers.
Starring Abhay Verma, known for his notable performances in ‘The Family Man‘ and ‘Uljhe Hue’, as ‘Chaandi’, and the talented Meera Chopra, recognized for her work in Telugu, Tamil, and Hindi films like ‘Bangaram‘, ‘Lee’, ‘Vaana’, ‘1920 London’, and ‘Section 375’, as ‘Kaali’, the movie beautifully portrays the bond between a transgender and a widow, IANS reported.
The film, inspired by a true story, offers glimpses of widows residing in a room, including Meera’s character ‘Kaali,’ draped in a white saree, holding a red dupatta a poignant representation of the anguish experienced by women who lose their husbands.
In a thought-provoking sequence, Meera’s reflection appears in a mirror, adorned with a red bindi on her forehead, symbolizing the resilience of her character amidst adversity.
The teaser also provides glimpses of ‘Dandi Ghat,’ showcasing an unimaginable love story, as transgenders and widows play with colors and rose petals.
Making his directorial debut with ‘Safed,’ Sandeep Singh, acclaimed for his exceptional work on films such as ‘RamLeela,’ ‘Rowdy Rathore,’ ‘Mary Kom,’ ‘Aligarh,’ ‘Sarbjit,’ ‘Bhoomi,’ and ‘Jhund,’ continues to make significant contributions to the industry. Currently, he is also producing films like ‘Swatantryaveer Savarkar,’ ‘Saharasri,’ and ‘Main Atal Hoon,’ among others.
The film’s first look was unveiled at Cannes 2022 by none other than the musical maestro AR Rahman.
Expressing his vision for the film, director Sandeep Singh shared, “Through ‘Safed,’ I aim to give a voice to individuals from diverse backgrounds who struggle to find their place amidst a conformist audience. Society has often looked down upon them, but at the core, aren’t we all human beings?”
