The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India, which will mark its silver jubilee with an event early next week to be attended by PM Modi, is organising an International Regulators Roundtable with the underlying theme being collaborative regulations.
The roundtable will cover the use of regtech and technology platforms for the purpose of curbing spam and leveraging platforms for effective management of countermeasures against fraudulent activities.
According to TRAI, participants shall also discuss creating an eco-system through RegTech for improving digital connectivity inside buildings. Digital Platforms, tools and processes developed and deployed for the purpose of curbing spam may also help in dealing more effectively with the fraudsters using telecom resources.
If law enforcement agencies and other regulators leverage the ecosystem developed for spam, they can gather more facts about the fraudsters almost on a real-time basis and take action proactively.
The roundtable, where Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal is likely to be the chief guest, will have three sessions to discuss the use of innovations and new technologies to curb spams and fraudulent communications.
After TRAI chairman’s inaugural address, the other sessions include leveraging blockchain and AI/ML technologies to curb the spam and to deal more effectively with the fraudulent communications.
Apart from international speakers, those from India will include Mahendra Srivastava, Principal Advisor (QoS), TRAI; Naveen Jakhar, ADG, Security Cell, Haryana LSA, Asit Kadayan, Advisor (QoS), TRAI and Vikram Tiwathia, DDG, COAI.
Other Indian speakers would also include representatives from organisations like the Reserve Bank of India and NCPI.
