Disney-owned Star TV Network on Monday announced the launch of its new Marathi movie channel Pravah Picture.
The new service will be available from May 15, Sunday, 2022. It boasts 200+ titles, plus a premiere of a Marathi movie every week.
Pravah Picture will premiere some of the biggest blockbusters including ‘Pavankhind’ on June 12, which stars Chinmay Mandlekar, Ajay Purkar, Sameer Dharmadhikari, and Aastad Kale. It will also screen Hemant Dhome multi-starrer ‘Jhimma’ and Ashok Saraf starrer ‘Kabhi Ambat Kadhi Goad’ and ‘Pravaas’, superstar Swwapnil Joshi starrer ‘Bali’.
Commenting on the launch of the new channel, Kevin Vaz, Head of Network Entertainment Channels, Disney Star, said, “Over the years, Star Pravah has carved a special place in the hearts of Marathi-speaking audiences, making it a household name. We are thrilled to extend the Pravah brand with Pravah Picture and bring to our viewers an exciting new channel to further cater to their entertainment needs. We are creating an opportunity for our audiences to come together to watch the finest Marathi titles with their families and celebrate the Maharashtrian culture.”
Launch of these new linear TV channels in India is in sharp contrast to Disney, which owns Star Network, as the company last year had announced shuttering of several such television channels in other parts of Asia, deciding to concentrate more on its D2C streaming business.
