Meta AI director Rohit Patel leaves to launch AI office suite ndoc.ai

Rohit Patel, a director at Meta Superintelligence Labs, has left the company after eight years to launch ndoc.ai, an AI-native office suite designed to challenge Microsoft Office and Google Workspace. The startup aims to bring AI-powered analysis, writing, presentations and dashboards together in a single document, offering an alternative to traditional office software.

Patel announced his departure on LinkedIn after the publication first reported the move. During his time at Meta, he worked on reinforcement learning and evaluating the trustworthiness of AI-generated output. At his new venture, Patel has taken on the title of “Chief Grunt Worker”.

Patel believes existing office software was designed decades ago around users navigating menus and separate applications, with AI features added later rather than built into the core experience. He argues that working with AI on tasks beyond coding remains cumbersome, as analysis, written reports and presentations often end up in separate files that users must manually bring together.

Ndoc.ai aims to address this problem by combining the AI model, written analysis, live slides and dashboards in one document. Once shared, the document allows readers to test different scenarios, trace figures back to their sources and ask questions directly about its contents. The approach is intended to make working with AI more integrated and reduce the need to move between multiple tools and files.

Patel has also said that the underlying ndoc file format will be open-sourced. According to him, this would allow users to retain access to their work beyond the lifespan of any particular software tool, including Ndoc itself.

Before joining Meta, Patel worked as Manager of Deals Strategy at Strategy&. His earlier experience includes roles as a researcher at the Kellogg School of Management, an economist at AltX and a consultant at Kantar IMRB.

Based in Miami, Patel is currently leading a team of three. The startup has not raised outside funding so far and is running an enterprise pilot while opening an alpha version to a limited number of customers through a waitlist. A beta release is planned for the coming weeks, followed by a full launch next year.

With ndoc.ai, Patel is seeking to rethink how professionals use office software in an era of increasingly capable AI systems, moving beyond adding AI features to existing applications towards bringing the entire workflow into a single, interactive document.
