Actor Ranbir Kapoor has described portraying Lord Rama in the upcoming cinematic epic ‘Ramayana’ as a profound responsibility, admitting that his initial reaction to the offer was marked by fear and self-doubt. The actor said the role carries immense significance, given the faith of millions of people associated with Lord Shri Ram.
Ranbir opened up about his experience during a Diwali special episode of the popular quiz reality show ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati’, hosted by megastar Amitabh Bachchan. The episode will air on October 29–30 at 9 pm on Sony Entertainment Television, according to an SET press release.
Reflecting on receiving the offer and his initial apprehensions, Ranbir told Amitabh Bachchan, “Sir jab mujhe yeh role offer hua, main jaanta tha ki yeh sirf ek role nahi hai, yeh ek bahut badi zimmedari thi. Mera jo pehla instinct tha woh dar tha, fear tha, ki kya main iske kabil hoon, kya main yeh kar paunga, Prabhu Shri Ram se karodon logon ki aastha judi hui hai.”
The actor explained that his fear soon turned into gratitude as he began to understand the opportunity the role presented. He also spoke about how the experience coincided with an important milestone in his personal life, as he became a father for the first time with the birth of his daughter, Raha.
“Par bahut jald sir yeh, yeh jo dar tha woh aabhar mein badla, ki mujhe is mukaam mein, at this age in my life, mujhe yeh opportunity mil rahi hai, ek acha actor banne ka… forget actor sir, ek acha insaan banne ka chance,” Ranbir said.
He further shared that becoming a father during the same period made the experience even more meaningful. Calling it a gift from God, the actor said the opportunity allowed him to become a better person, understand the ‘Ramayana’ more deeply and work with people he described as beautiful.
Speaking about the ideals associated with Lord Rama, Ranbir acknowledged that becoming like the deity may not be possible, but learning from his values is significant for everyone.
“Sir hum Prabhu Shri Ram ke jaisa banna to sambhav nahi hai, lekin unki aadarshon se kuch sikhna I think is a big thing for all of us,” he said.
Ranbir’s reflections highlight the personal significance of taking on the iconic role, which he sees as more than an acting opportunity. His comments also underline how preparing for ‘Ramayana’ has encouraged him to reflect on the epic’s teachings and their relevance to everyday life.
The upcoming ‘Ramayana’ brings one of India’s most revered epics to the big screen, with Ranbir portraying Lord Rama. His comments offer a glimpse into the sense of responsibility and personal introspection that have accompanied his preparation for the role.
The Diwali special episode of ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati’ featuring the actor will air on October 29 and 30 at 9 pm on Sony Entertainment Television.
