Actor and content creator Purav Jha, known for his parody videos and his performance in the first season of ‘The Traitors’, is set to explore a new side of his talent in Prime Video’s upcoming crime drama series ‘Chaar Yaar’. He will play Saahil Sheikh in the series, which is set to premiere on October 23.
According to a Prime Video press release, speaking at GamingCon Bharat, Purav Jha said that becoming an actor had always been his dream. He explained that playing Saahil gave him an opportunity to move beyond parody videos and experience a different character. He also thanked director Vinay Waikul for giving him this opportunity.
Purav said that working on ‘Chaar Yaar’ helped him learn a lot from his co-stars. He added that acting is a learning process and no actor is perfect. According to him, working on a longer project gave him more time and space to understand the craft of acting.
When asked whether audiences could trust him in ‘Chaar Yaar’ after his role as the original traitor in ‘The Traitors’, Purav jokingly replied, “Bilkul bhi nahi, bilkul bhi nahi.” He described Saahil as a “peak character” and hinted that viewers would have to watch the series to understand him better.
Set in Mumbai in the early 2000s, ‘Chaar Yaar’ follows four friends — Jay, Tony, Saahil and Sameer whose dreams of a better life take a dangerous turn after one decision draws them into the world of crime. As they become involved with gangsters, they also face relentless police pursuit.
Directed by Vinay Waikul and written by Sambit Mishra and Saurabh Sawant, the eight-episode series stars Purav Jha, Naman Jain, Saqib Ayub and Prayrak Mehta in lead roles. The cast also includes Sai Tamhankar, Sikandar Kher, Dibyendu Bhattacharya, Rajesh Tailang, Chunky Panday and Bhagavathi Perumall in pivotal roles.
Produced by Pink Window Production Pvt. Ltd., developed by BBC Studios India and created by Vinay Waikul, S. Hussain Zaidi, Sambit Mishra and Saurabh Sawant, ‘Chaar Yaar’ will premiere exclusively on Prime Video on October 23.
