Filmmaker Karan Johar has announced ‘Student of the Year: After Dark’, a new web series that will take the popular ‘Student of the Year’ franchise in a darker direction. The series will feature Shanaya Kapoor in the lead role and mark her OTT debut.
According to an ANI report from Mumbai, unlike the earlier films, which focused on college life, romance and competition, the new series will explore a darker thriller storyline.
The project aims to present the familiar franchise in a different style for a new generation of viewers.
The series will be directed by Reema Maya and produced by Dharmatic Entertainment. Karan is backing the project, which reimagines the franchise.
The announcement marks a new chapter for the franchise, which began with the 2012 film ‘Student of the Year’, starring Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan and Sidharth Malhotra. Its sequel,‘Student of the Year 2’, was released in 2019 and featured Tiger Shroff, Ananya Panday and Tara Sutaria.
“Nostalgia is working overtime this week!! As we complete 14 years of our beloved SOTY franchise, we embark on a new journey, taking it forward, but it is now AFTER DARK,” Johar said in an Instagram post.
