Warner Bros. Discovery, CreAsia Studio, part of Endemol Shine India, and Banijay Rights are bringing the revamped reality competition series ‘MasterChef Asia’ to Indian audiences, with the show set to premiere on TLC on September 22 at 9 pm.
The 10-episode series will also be available to stream on discovery+ from October 2. The new edition brings together contestants from across Asia and beyond for a fresh set of high-stakes culinary challenges, with the winner competing for the title of ‘MasterChef Asia’.
The judging panel features chefs Edward Lee, ‘Pam’ Pichaya S. and Kelvin Cheung, who will assess the contestants through a series of challenges designed to test their culinary skills, creativity and versatility.
Filmed in Macao, a UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy, the series brings together a diverse line-up of culinary talent. The contestants include Vietnamese Australian chef Khanh Ong, restaurant owner Sahadol “Pond” Tantrapim, Malaysian pastry chef Marcus Low, Korean gastronomy specialist Areum Yoon, and Asian cuisine chefs Audrey Wicksana, Therese Lum, Mime Kataniwa and Ivory Yat.
Sandy Tang will represent Macao in the competition, while Nambie Jessica Marak is the only contestant representing India. Marak is also the Culinary and Cultural Ambassador of Meghalaya.
The series will further feature guest judges Mark Wiens, Abi Marquez, Chef Ken Chong and Chef Julien Tongourian, adding to the mix of culinary expertise and perspectives across the competition.
Produced in partnership with the Macao Government Tourism Office, ‘MasterChef Asia’ was filmed across several locations in Macao. The series takes contestants beyond the dedicated ‘MasterChef Asia’ kitchen, with challenges set in local markets and Michelin-starred restaurants, giving the competition a strong connection to the region’s food culture.
The culinary challenges will put the contestants through different formats and cuisines, testing not only their technical abilities but also their creativity and adaptability under pressure.
‘MasterChef’, created by Franc Roddam, first launched in 1990 and has since developed into one of the world’s most widely commissioned cookery television formats. According to Guinness World Records, the format has been commissioned across 74 markets, with more than 750 seasons and 16,000 episodes aired to date.
‘MasterChef Asia’ premieres on September 22 at 9 pm on TLC in India and will begin streaming on discovery+ from October 2.
