Indian artists’ Spotify royalties rise 29 percent in 2025

Indian artists earned 29 percent more royalties from Spotify in 2025 compared with the previous year, according to Spotify’s latest Loud & Clear report.

According to The Economic Times report today, regional-language music saw strong growth, with Telugu royalties rising by more than 120 percent, Marathi by nearly 50 percent and Bengali by around 40 percent. Malayalam grew by more than 30 percent, Hindi by nearly 30 percent and Tamil by 20 percent.

Indian artists were discovered by new listeners around the world 12.8 billion times in 2025, up 14 percent from the previous year. Their music generated nearly 335 billion streams on Spotify, equivalent to more than 20 billion hours of listening. More than 40 percent of the royalties earned by Indian artists came from listeners outside India.

The report also showed an increase in the number of artists earning higher royalties. The number of Indian artists earning more than Rs. 1 crore in annual royalties increased by 21 percent in 2025, while the number earning more than Rs. 5 crore has more than doubled since 2023.

Indian music also remained strong on Spotify’s charts. Indian artists accounted for 90 percent of the tracks on Spotify India’s Daily Top 50 in 2025, showing the growing popularity of regional-language and independent music among listeners in India and across the world.
