8Bit Creatives to produce global chess league S4

8Bit Creatives has entered the live sports broadcast and production space after being appointed the official broadcast & production agency for season 4 of the Tech Mahindra Global Chess League (GCL).

According to a 8Bit Creatives press release from Bengaluru today, the agency will handle the end to end live broadcast production for all nine days of the league, which will be held at The Lalit Ashok in Bengaluru from September 5 to 13, 2026. It will also serve as the official photography and videography partner for the event.

This will be the first time the Global Chess League is being held in Bengaluru. Six franchises will compete in a double round-robin format across more than 30 matches.

The tournament will feature several top international chess players, including Magnus Carlsen, Alireza Firouzja, Viswanathan Anand, Ian Nepomniachtchi, Maxime Vachier-Lagrave and Javokhir Sindarov. Other leading players include Anish Giri, Arjun Erigaisi, Levon Aronian, Wei Yi, Nihal Sarin and Shakhriyar Mamedyarov.

8Bit Creatives will bring its experience in gaming and esports production to the chess league. The broadcast will use more than 30 cameras across three halls, including Jib and Steadicam cameras, along with dedicated cameras for individual chessboards and player reactions.

For the first time in the league’s history, viewers will get separate English and Hindi live feeds. The production will also use live DGT board data, real-time game evaluations, player statistics and analysis graphics to give viewers deeper insights into the games as the action unfolds.

The agency will also create an LED-based in-venue experience, daily highlights and an official after-movie covering the key moments of the season.

Animesh Agarwal, Co-founder of 8Bit Creatives, said the partnership is a natural extension of the company’s work in gaming, creators and entertainment. He added that the agency aims to bring a modern, data-driven and audience-focused approach to chess broadcasting.

Gourav Rakshit, Commissioner of the Tech Mahindra Global Chess League, said the partnership will help improve the fan experience both inside the arena and for viewers watching from home.

The broadcast will be produced from a purpose-built production control room at the Bengaluru venue, with studio programming and commentary available in both English and Hindi. The coverage will continue from the opening matches through the crowning of the Season 4 champions on September 13.
