Casting director Mukesh Chhabra and choreographer Bosco Martis have joined hands for ‘The Big Break’, a digital-first talent hunt that seeks actors, dancers and singers through a single multi-platform competition.
Produced by BARD, ‘The Big Break’ opened its call for entries on August 5 and is designed to scout performers through Instagram, YouTube and Snapchat before culminating in an on-ground finale, according to a PTI report from Mumbai yesterday.
Format creator Rajiv Lakshman has been brought on board to develop the talent IP for today’s digital-first audiences, a press release said.
Unlike traditional talent hunts that typically focus on one discipline and are built around television audiences, ‘The Big Break’ brings acting, dancing and singing together in a single competition.
The format allows participants to audition through their phones, without having to travel to audition centres or wait in registration queues.
Applicants can send a collaboration request to the official @thebigbreakindia handle along with a monologue, song or dance routine.
Chhabra said, “Talent has never been limited to one city or one background, and after years of meeting artists from across the world, I felt it was time to make the journey between talent and the industry a little shorter.
“That’s what inspired Bosco and me to create ‘The Big Break’. Together with our teams, we wanted to build a platform that is accessible, inclusive, and designed for today’s digital generation, where actors, singers, and dancers can be discovered on merit alone.
According to Bosco, “India is home to countless talented singers, actors, dancers, and performers who simply haven’t been given the platform they deserve. Some of our best dancers are still learning and performing on terraces, in gullies, and through online videos.
“That’s what ‘The Big Break’ is all about.”
Lakshman said he had fun while creating this “most challenging” of the IPs.
