Bollywood actor Rani Mukerji has been honoured with an Honorary Doctor of Letters by La Trobe University at the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM) 2026. The honour recognises her contribution to Indian cinema and her work beyond films.According to an ANI report from Australia, Rani received the honorary degree in Melbourne as part of the IFFM 2026 celebrations.

The festival, which celebrates Indian cinema on an international platform, brings together actors, filmmakers and films from across India.

Over her nearly three-decade-long career, Rani has delivered several acclaimed performances in films such as ‘Black’, ‘Hichki’, ‘Mardaani’, ‘No One Killed Jessica’ and ‘Mrs Chatterjee vs Norway’. Many of her films have also highlighted important social issues.

Rani has also been associated with causes related to women, children and social development. Her work through cinema has often focused on themes such as equality, justice, empowerment and inclusion.

Speaking about the honour, Rani said she was deeply humbled and grateful to receive the recognition. She said cinema has been one of her greatest teachers and that she believes storytelling can create empathy, start meaningful conversations and bring positive change.
