Apple TV made a strong statement at San Diego Comic-Con 2026, unveiling a slate of upcoming originals with exclusive first looks at ‘Dark Matter’ Season 2, the debut teaser for ‘Neuromancer’, and the first trailer for Apple Original Film ‘Matchbox the Movie’.
The Hall H presentation at Comic-Con 2026 on July 25 brought together stars and creators, offering fans a preview of Apple’s expanding genre slate spanning sci-fi, cyberpunk and action-adventure.
Leading the announcements was the first trailer for ‘Matchbox the Movie’, inspired by Mattel’s iconic toy cars.
Directed by Sam Hargrave and written by David Coggeshall, the globe-trotting action-adventure follows undercover CIA agent Sean, played by John Cena, who reunites with his childhood friends only to drag them into a dangerous international mission to save the world.
The ‘Matchbox’ film, premiers globally on Apple TV on October 9, also stars Jessica Biel, Sam Richardson, Arturo Castro, Teyonah Parris, Danai Gurira, Corey Stoll, Bill Camp and Golshifteh Farahani.
Apple also debuted the official trailer for Season 2 of its acclaimed sci-fi thriller ‘Dark Matter’ at Comic-Con, which played out from July 23-26 at San Diego with media companies and fans all having some serious fun, though the heat was a bit of a concern — especially for cosplayers.
Based on Blake Crouch’s bestselling novel, ‘Dark Matters’ stars Joel Edgerton, Jennifer Connelly, Alice Braga, Jimmi Simpson, Dayo Okeniyi, Oakes Fegley and Amanda Brugel.
The new season picks up after the events of Season 1 as Jason and Daniela Dessen attempt to rebuild their lives before fresh threats across realities force them back into the unknown.
Created and executive produced by Crouch, the 10-episode second season premieres on August 28, with new episodes streaming weekly through October 30.
The streamer also unveiled the first-ever teaser for ‘Neuromancer’, its ambitious adaptation of William Gibson’s seminal cyberpunk novel.
Starring Callum Turner as elite hacker Case and Briana Middleton as Molly, the series follows the pair as they undertake a high-stakes digital heist against a powerful corporate dynasty.
The cast also includes Mark Strong, Clémence Poésy, Peter Sarsgaard, Joseph Lee and Emma Laird. Created for television by Graham Roland and JD Dillard, the series will premiere globally on Apple TV in January 2027.
The Comic-Con showcase underscored Apple’s growing investment in premium genre storytelling, with major franchise adaptations and returning fan favourites taking centre stage as the platform builds momentum for its upcoming release slate.
