Argentina’s Ambassador to India, Mariano Caucino, expressed heartfelt gratitude to Indian football fans after Argentina finished as runners up at the FIFA World Cup 2026. Despite the team’s defeat in the final, the envoy thanked supporters across India for standing by Argentina throughout its World Cup journey.
According to an ANI report, the ambassador took to social media to share an emotional message, writing, ‘Thank you, India, once again.’ He said the immense love and encouragement shown by Indian fans reflected the deep connection between the two countries through football.
Argentina enjoyed massive support from Indian football enthusiasts during the tournament, with fans cheering for the team from the group stage to the final. Social media platforms were flooded with messages backing the South American giants, highlighting the country’s strong fan following in India.
The ambassador also praised the Argentine team’s determination and fighting spirit during the tournament. Although the team missed out on retaining the FIFA World Cup title, he said the players had delivered memorable performances and made their nation proud.
Argentina entered the final as one of the favourites after an impressive campaign. However, the team fell short in the championship match and had to settle for a runners up finish. Even after the defeat, supporters across India continued to express admiration for the players and thanked them for an exciting tournament.
Argentina has built a huge fan base in India over the years, largely due to the popularity of football legend Lionel Messi and the team’s memorable success at the 2022 FIFA World Cup. That support remained strong during the 2026 edition, with Indian fans actively celebrating Argentina’s victories and rallying behind the team throughout the competition.
The ambassador’s message was widely appreciated on social media, with many Indian fans responding by congratulating Argentina on its campaign and assuring the team of their continued support in future tournaments.
