WhatsApp is rolling out a new feature for iPhone users that allows them to change microphone settings directly during voice and video calls.
According to a Storyboard18 report, the new in call microphone shortcut brings Apple’s mic mode controls inside the WhatsApp call interface, removing the need to open the iPhone’s control center.
The feature is being introduced gradually for eligible users and has been spotted in WhatsApp iOS version 26.27.74. During an ongoing call, users can access the option by tapping the three-dot ‘More’ menu and selecting the microphone mode setting. The change is applied instantly without interrupting the call.
The new shortcut gives users access to Apple’s microphone modes, including automatic, standard, voice isolation, and wide spectrum.
Voice Isolation helps reduce background noise and improves voice clarity, while Wide Spectrum captures both the user’s voice and surrounding sounds.
The Automatic mode allows the iPhone to select the most suitable audio setting based on the situation and requires iOS 18 or later. Standard mode continues to provide Apple’s default voice processing without additional filtering.
The feature will be available on supported iPhone models, including iPhone XR, iPhone XS series, and newer devices running compatible iOS versions. However, since WhatsApp is releasing the update in phases, it may not appear for every user immediately.
