JioHotstar has announced the premiere of ‘Land of Football’, a Hotstar Specials title that celebrates Kerala’s enduring football culture and its deep emotional connection with the sport. The documentary will begin streaming on July 10.
According to the platform, ‘Land of Football’ has been presented in association with Kerala Tourism and explores how football has become an integral part of life in Kerala, where the sport is embraced across generations and communities.
The documentary revisits one of the most talked-about moments from the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, when thousands of Malayali football fans wearing jerseys of different national teams gathered in Doha to celebrate the tournament.
While some international media outlets had described them as “fake fans”, the documentary presents the gathering as a genuine expression of Kerala’s long-standing football tradition and the state’s passion for the global game.
Produced by Waseem Haider and Anamay Prakash under the banner of Brown Crew Productions, the documentary is directed by Haseef Hakeem. The screenplay and dialogues have been written by Jushna Shaheen.
The project features cinematography by Nanda Kishore and Darshan, editing by Tamjee Taha and an original score composed by Jai Unnithan.
Through ‘Land of Football’, JioHotstar aims to showcase Kerala’s unique sporting identity and highlight the cultural significance of football in the state.
