The Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI) has launched the AI Council of India (AICI) yesterday, a new national platform aimed at fostering collaboration and driving synergy across India’s rapidly expanding artificial intelligence ecosystem. The initiative seeks to bring together industry leaders, policymakers, technology experts, startups, academia and other stakeholders to support the responsible growth and adoption of AI in the country.
The development was announced through an IAMAI LinkedIn post, which highlighted the launch of the Council and key moments from the event. The event was attended by Ashish Shelar, Minister of Information Technology and Cultural Affairs, Government of Maharashtra, and Neelkanth Mishra, Member of the Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister and Executive Director-Designate at the World Bank.
The newly formed AI Council of India has been envisioned as a collaborative platform that will work towards creating greater alignment across the country’s AI ecosystem at a time when artificial intelligence is emerging as a key driver of innovation, productivity and economic growth. By bringing together diverse stakeholders under one umbrella, the Council aims to facilitate dialogue, encourage knowledge-sharing and support the development of frameworks that can help strengthen India’s position in the global AI landscape.
The launch comes as India continues to witness growing adoption of AI technologies across sectors such as healthcare, education, financial services, manufacturing, agriculture and public services. With increasing investments and policy focus on emerging technologies, the Council is expected to contribute towards promoting innovation while encouraging responsible and ethical AI development.
Several industry leaders and technology professionals were associated with the launch, including Sharad Sanghi, Subho Ray, Gaurav Chopra, Sandeep Jhingran, Sidheswar (Sid) Misra and Garima Kalgutker, among others.
Through the AI Council of India, IAMAI aims to create a unified platform that can accelerate AI-led innovation, encourage industry collaboration and contribute to India’s broader digital transformation agenda. The initiative also aligns with the country’s growing emphasis on responsible AI, technological leadership and building future-ready digital capabilities.
As artificial intelligence continues to reshape industries and economies worldwide, the launch of AICI marks another step towards strengthening India’s AI ecosystem and ensuring that stakeholders across sectors can work together to unlock the technology’s full potential.
