Amazon MGM Studios has announced that sci-fi adventure ‘Project Hail Mary’ will premiere on Prime Video on July 3, bringing the theatrical hit to streaming audiences worldwide as part of Prime membership.
The film is based on Andy Weir’s New York Times bestselling novel of the same name and stars Ryan Gosling in the lead role.
Directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller from a screenplay by Drew Goddard, the film follows Ryland Grace, a middle-school science teacher who wakes up alone aboard a spacecraft with no memory of his identity or mission. As his memories gradually return, he realises he is humanity’s last hope to solve the mystery behind a substance causing the sun to die and save life on Earth.
The film also stars Sandra Hüller, Milana Vayntrub, Lionel Boyce, Ken Leung and James Ortiz.
During the mission, Grace forms an unexpected alliance that helps him confront the seemingly impossible task before him, combining science, humour and emotional storytelling.
‘Project Hail Mary’ is produced by Amy Pascal, Ryan Gosling, Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, Aditya Sood, Rachel O’Connor and Andy Weir. The executive producers are Drew Goddard, Sarah Esberg, Ken Kao, Nikki Baida and Liz Raposo.
Amazon MGM Studios has also released a new clip from the film ahead of its streaming debut.
The streaming release follows the film’s theatrical run and expands its availability to Prime Video subscribers, marking the next stage in the rollout of the adaptation of Andy Weir’s bestselling novel.
