Choreographer Raju Khan recently shared the challenges he faced while filming the iconic song ‘Ghanan Ghanan’ from the film ‘Lagaan’ during an episode of India’s Best Dancer Season 5.

According to a SET press release, while celebrating the spirit of ‘India Wala Dance’ on the show, Raju Khan revealed that the song was shot during the early days of the film’s production and required extensive planning despite limited time.

He recalled that after seeing the massive set for the first time, he had only one night to plan the entire song sequence. the shoot lasted around eight days and became even more challenging when scenes showing cloudy weather had to be filmed. since real clouds were not available and the large set could not be fully covered, the team had to carefully design shots to avoid showing shadows and create the illusion of an overcast sky.

 Raju Khan said that many scenes in the second half of the song were filmed during sunset, when there were only about 45 minutes of natural light available and shadows were minimal. He described the entire process as a difficult but rewarding experience.

 The discussion became even more special when it was revealed that ‘Ghanan Ghanan’ earned Raju Khan the national film award, making it one of the most celebrated songs in Indian cinema.
