YouTube is reportedly working on a new feature aimed at improving the account-switching experience for users on Android TV devices. The update is designed to simplify the navigation process, allowing users to switch between multiple profiles more seamlessly.
Currently, the process involves navigating through various menus using a remote, which can be cumbersome and time-consuming.
According to a report from Android Authority, Google is testing an updated interface that will make switching accounts on YouTube akin to the experience offered by leading streaming services like Netflix and Amazon Prime Video. While YouTube has yet to make an official announcement regarding this feature, preliminary reports suggest that some users have already begun to receive the update.
With over 270 million monthly active Google TV and Android TV devices globally, this enhancement is poised to significantly improve the YouTube experience for a vast audience. The update is expected to make profile switching more intuitive, especially for shared devices like televisions.
Currently, switching between YouTube accounts on Android TV requires users to sign in to multiple Google accounts directly on the device. This method poses potential security risks and demands at least six button presses to switch accounts, making it a frustrating experience.
The forthcoming update, modeled after Netflix’s account switcher, will allow users to select their preferred profile immediately upon launching the app. Moreover, it will facilitate seamless account switching within the YouTube app itself, eliminating the need to delve into Android TV settings.
