WhatsApp, which is owned by Meta, is developing a new Mac app that will make better use of system resources by utilizing the Apple Mac Catalyst development environment.
WhatsApp currently offers a web-based Electron app for Mac users in addition to its web app via browsers, according to AppleInsider.
Electron and Catalyst are software development frameworks that aid in the creation of desktop applications.
According to IANS, the new app has been in closed beta for a few months, but anyone can now download the file on macOS Big Sur or later from the WhatsApp website.
After installation, it will display a QR code that users can scan with their iPhones to link their accounts with the WhatsApp iOS app.
The three-panel interface of the Mac app allows you to access archived chats, starred messages, phone calls, and settings.
According to the report, the Catalyst app includes features not available in the Electron version, such as file drag-and-drop and a spell-checker.
Meanwhile, WhatsApp has reportedly released some new iOS shortcuts that allow group admins to quickly and easily perform actions for a specific group participant.
The new shortcuts simplify interactions with group members, as the platform now supports large groups of up to 1,024 participants.
The new update will make it easier for group administrators to manage and communicate with such a large number of members.
