WhatsApp is set to revolutionize cross-language communication by integrating Google Translate directly into chats, allowing users to translate messages seamlessly in real-time.
This new feature, currently available to some Android beta testers in app update version 2.24.15.8, is expected to enhance the user experience by enabling instant translations during conversations.
According to a report by Times of India, the new feature employs Google’s live translation technology, which functions directly on the user’s device. This ensures that user privacy is maintained, as the translation process occurs locally without sending data to external servers.
To utilize this feature, users will need to download language packs, providing them access to translations in their preferred languages at any time. Initially, the feature will support translations between languages such as Hindi and English, with plans to expand to additional languages in future updates.
The introduction of this feature follows the recent rollout of a transcribe feature for voice notes, showcasing WhatsApp’s commitment to enhancing communication tools within the app.
“Users will be able to benefit from the ability to translate messages instantly during conversations, as these translations might automatically be applied as they chat, maintaining the flow of their communication. We believe that this feature will facilitate enhanced communication across different languages without interruptions or delays,” the report adds.
Key Features:
- Real-Time Translation: Translate messages instantly within chats using Google Translate technology.
- Local Processing: Ensures user privacy by performing translations directly on the user’s device.
- Language Packs: Users can download specific language packs for offline translation.
- Initial Language Support: Initially available for Hindi and English, with more languages to be added in future updates.
This feature marks a significant advancement in WhatsApp‘s efforts to make global communication more accessible and convenient for its users.
