X Corp, the transformed Twitter, is witnessing a worrisome decrease in user traffic and search interest across the globe.
Following Elon Musk‘s takeover of the platform last year, more than four-fifths of the 176 countries accessing Twitter in September have reported a decline in website visits.
Moreover, Google data underscores this decline, with global searches for Twitter dropping from 14 million to 11 million monthly searches, marking the lowest level since November 2018, IANS has reported.
In September, X Corp’s website traffic decreased from 6.4 billion to 5.8 billion, reflecting a 10 percent decrease. This drop was particularly evident in the vast number of countries experiencing a decline in month-over-month visits.
A spokesperson for Venture Smarter expressed concern over Twitter’s waning popularity, stating, “Similar web traffic shows that Twitter is quickly losing traffic and has already slipped in global rankings. Since Musk took over, its popularity appears to be declining.”
While the decline in traffic could partially be attributed to Twitter’s efforts to combat bots, there is growing speculation that users are disengaging from the platform. Musk recently proposed a $1 charge for new X Corp users, a potential strategy to address the bot issue.
This move underscores the company’s commitment to tackling the problem and highlights its concern over declining user engagement.
As X Corp grapples with decreasing user visits, search interest, and global rankings, these developments signal a pivotal moment for the platform and its efforts to regain user engagement while addressing the issue of bots.
