Disney and Pixar have unveiled the first full trailer of ‘Toy Story 5’, bringing back one of animation’s most beloved franchises nearly seven years after its previous instalment. The studio shared the official trailer on its social media platforms, confirming that the film is set to arrive in theatres on June 19.
According to an ANI report, the fifth instalment revisits the iconic characters Woody, Buzz Lightyear and their friends as they face a new-age dilemma — redefining a toy’s purpose in a world increasingly shaped by digital technology. The story explores how toys navigate relevance and emotional connection at a time when children’s attention is shifting towards screens and smart devices.
As per reports, the trailer sets up the central conflict around Bonnie’s growing fascination with a high-tech, frog-themed tablet named Lilypad, voiced by Greta Lee. Rather than portraying technology as a straightforward antagonist, the film appears to present an emotional and existential journey for toys confronting the possibility of becoming obsolete.
The film marks the reunion of Woody and Buzz, with the trailer offering both humour and emotional depth. Woody is shown sporting a small bald spot and wearing a poncho, adding a fresh dimension to his character. Tom Hanks and Tim Allen return to voice Woody and Buzz respectively, alongside Joan Cusack as Jessie. Blake Clark and Tony Hale also reprise their roles, while familiar characters including Jessie, Forky, Slinky Dog, Hamm and Trixie join forces to help Bonnie rediscover the value of her toys.
The sequel also introduces new characters, expanding the franchise’s universe. Atlas, a friendly GPS-enabled hippo voiced by Craig Robinson, Snappy, an energetic camera toy voiced by Shelby Rabara, and Smarty Pants, a toilet-training tech toy voiced by Conan O’Brien, make their debut in the upcoming film.
Directed and written by Andrew Stanton, known for acclaimed animated films such as ‘Finding Nemo’ and ‘WALL-E’, with Kenna Harris serving as co-director, the film explores how digital devices have reshaped childhood experiences. The sequel follows the events of Toy Story 4, which concluded with Woody choosing independence over life in Bonnie’s toy chest, leaving audiences eager to see how the new chapter addresses that separation.
With its blend of nostalgia, emotional storytelling and contemporary themes, ‘Toy Story 5’ aims to deliver another engaging chapter in the long-running franchise when it hits cinemas worldwide in June.
