In celebration of Sir David Attenborough’s 99th birthday, Sony BBC Earth is paying a fitting tribute to the legendary naturalist with a full-day programming marathon dedicated to his most iconic and breathtaking works.
Known for his unparalleled contribution to natural history storytelling, Sir David’s voice and vision have shaped the way the world views the wonders of Earth for decades. The special lineup will air on May 8, 2025, from 9 am to 9 pm.
According to a press note released by Sony BBC Earth, the channel has carefully curated a selection of Attenborough’s most acclaimed documentary series, aiming to showcase the vastness, diversity, and fragile beauty of life on Earth. This tribute is not only a celebration of his 99 years but also a recognition of a lifetime spent championing nature and educating audiences through cinematic brilliance.
Among the titles featured in the 12-hour tribute are groundbreaking series like ‘Life’, which explores the astonishing diversity and survival strategies of Earth’s flora and fauna; ‘Planet Earth II’ and the newly released ‘Planet Earth III’, offering a panoramic view of the planet’s majestic landscapes and evolving wildlife; and ‘Frozen Planet II’, which dives into the breath-taking icy realms and the creatures that thrive in extreme conditions.
Viewers can also look forward to ‘Life Story’, told uniquely from the viewpoint of animals as they navigate their journey from birth to parenthood. ‘The Green Planet’ introduces the secret life of plants, revealing the intricate ways in which they grow, interact, and defend themselves.
Other celebrated works in the line-up include ‘Seven Worlds’, ‘One Planet’, which explores the unique ecosystems of each continent; ‘A Perfect Planet’, examining the natural forces that sustain life; and Mammals, which showcases the adaptability and complexity of the animal class we humans belong to.
This day-long tribute is more than just a television marathon — it’s a celebration of storytelling, scientific curiosity, and environmental consciousness.
