The government-controlled RailTel Corporation of India has secured a Rs.159.80 crore contract from country’s pubcaster Prasar Bharati for providing cloud-based integrated newsroom services for Doordarshan, the company said in a regulatory filing to the stock market BSE.
The contract covers Doordarshan News, DD India and regional news units, marking a significant order win for RailTel in the broadcasting services segment.
According to the filing, RailTel received a Letter of Intent from Prasar Bharati, through the office of the Doordarshan Director General, for the supply, installation, testing and commissioning (SITC) of a cloud-based integrated newsroom system. The total contract value stands at Rs.159.80 crore, inclusive of taxes, and the nature of the contract is domestic.
RailTel informed the BSE about the contract on March 20 in compliance with Regulation 30 of the SEBI (Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements) Regulations. The company stated that the LoI was received on March 19, 2026.
RailTel, a ‘navratna’ Central Public Sector Enterprise, is an ICT provider and one of the largest neutral telecom infrastructure providers in the country owning a pan-India optic fiber network. The OFC network covers important towns and cities of the country and several rural areas. It was incorporated in September 2000 with the aim of modernizing the existing telecom system for train control, operation and safety and to generate additional revenues by creating nationwide broadband and multimedia networks, laying optical fiber cable using the right of way along railway tracks.
Presently, the optic fiber network of RailTel covers over 63000+ route kilometers across India. The citywide access across the country is 21000+ kms, the company website states.
The scope of the Prasar Bharati project includes deployment of a modern, cloud-based newsroom infrastructure aimed at supporting multiple Doordarshan platforms, including national and regional news operations. The system is intended to enable integrated and streamlined news production and distribution across the broadcaster’s network.
The contract is scheduled to be executed over a multi-year period, with completion targeted by March 2029, as per the company’s disclosure.
