One of Bollywood’s most loved family dramas, ‘Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham’, has completed 24 years since its release, and actress Kajol marked the milestone with a nostalgic note recalling the film and her iconic character, Anjali. The film, released in 2001, continues to hold a special place in the hearts of audiences across generations.
According to a UNI report, Kajol took to Instagram to celebrate the anniversary, fondly remembering Anjali and Shah Rukh Khan’s Rahul. Sharing a light-hearted message, she wrote, “To all the Anjali’s out there, keep being loud and proud! Rahul is out there somewhere, but he might be late because of traffic,” a line that instantly resonated with fans of the film.
Written and directed by Karan Johar and produced under the Yash Raj banner, ‘Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham’ featured a stellar ensemble cast led by Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol, with Hrithik Roshan and Kareena Kapoor playing pivotal roles. Rani Mukerji appeared in a special cameo, adding to the film’s star power.
The story revolves around a wealthy family torn apart by misunderstandings when their adopted son Rahul chooses to marry Anjali, a woman from a lower socio-economic background. The emotional family drama, centred on love, pride and reconciliation, struck a chord with audiences in India and overseas, becoming one of the biggest blockbusters of its time.
Apart from its strong performances and memorable dialogues, the film’s music played a key role in its lasting popularity, with several songs becoming timeless classics. The film also introduced one of Hindi cinema’s most iconic characters, ‘Pooh’, played by Kareena Kapoor, who remains a pop culture favourite even today.
‘Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham’ also marked Karan Johar’s first collaboration with megastar Amitabh Bachchan, making it a landmark project in Bollywood history. More than two decades later, the film continues to be celebrated for its emotional depth, grandeur and enduring appeal.
