Actor-singer Diljit Dosanjh has completed shooting for his next, yet-untitled film with filmmaker Imtiaz Ali, marking a reunion after their widely acclaimed collaboration on Amar Singh ‘Chamkila’. The update was shared by Dosanjh himself, who offered fans a glimpse from the set through his social media handle.
According to an UNI report, Diljit posted a series of photographs on Instagram, where he is seen dressed in a brown jacket, T-shirt and black trousers, standing with folded hands and bowing respectfully towards Imtiaz Ali. Captioning the images, he wrote, “Wrapped Shooting For Imtiaz Ali Sir’s Film,” confirming the completion of the shoot and sparking curiosity around the upcoming project.
The reunion comes on the back of the success of Amar Singh Chamkila, a biographical musical drama that traced the life of Punjab’s iconic folk singer, often referred to as the “Elvis of Punjab.” The film explored Chamkila’s meteoric rise in the 1980s through his provocative lyrics and electrifying stage presence, as well as the tragic end to his life when he and his wife, singer Amarjot Kaur, were shot dead in 1988 at just 27.
Released on Netflix in April 2024, Amar Singh Chamkila also featured Parineeti Chopra in a key role and was written by Imtiaz Ali along with his brother Sajid Ali. The film received widespread appreciation for its raw, live-recorded folk music and emotionally layered storytelling, standing out as one of the year’s most talked-about releases.
Diljit’s portrayal of Chamkila proved to be a turning point in his career, earning him his first-ever International Emmy nomination and further cementing his global standing as both an actor and performer. While details about the new project remain under wraps, the collaboration has already generated considerable anticipation among fans and industry watchers alike, given the creative synergy the duo displayed in their previous outing.
