‘Dhurandhar2’ BO run strong; tops Rs. 550cr mark globally

The second instalment of the  Ranveer Singh-starrer ‘Dhurandhar2’, an Indian spy story partly based on true events in Pakistan, continued its march into box-office collections history and is music to the ears of the film’s makers. Latest reports yesterday evening said having earned over Rs 83 crore March 22, the movie had crossed the Rs 550 crore mark globally.

According to a PTI report yesterday from New Delhi, Aditya Dhar’s directorial ‘Dhurandhar: The Revenge’ has crossed the mark of Rs 300 crore at the domestic box office in three days of its release.

Also starring R Madhavan, Arjun Rampal, Sanjay Dutt, Sara Arjun and Rakesh Bedi, the film released on Thursday (March 19) and is a sequel to Dhar’s 2025 release ‘Dhurandhar’.

The film had delivered a record-breaking opening, earning Rs 43 crore from paid previews on Wednesday (March 18) and Rs 102.55 crore on its first day. The total collection of the film stands at Rs 339.27 crore nett at the domestic box office, according to the trade tracking website Sacnilk, the PTI report stated.

Set in Lyari town of Karachi, an area known for its history of gang wars and violent turf battles, ‘Dhurandhar’ revolves around covert intelligence operations against the backdrop of geopolitical and terror events like the Kandahar plane hijack, the 2001 Parliament Attack and the 26/11 Mumbai attacks.

The sequel charts the rise of Singh’s character Hamza Ali Mazari in the Karachi underworld, while also delving into his origins as Jaskirat Singh Rangi, tracing the journey of the young man who eventually transforms into the covert operative.

Produced by Jyoti Deshpande on behalf of Jio Studios and Lokesh Dhar, the film released in Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam.

Meanwhile, according to other PTI reports yesterday, actor-directors Anupam Kher and Rishab Shetty (of ‘Kantara’ fame) lauded Ranveer Singh-led  the ‘Dhurandhar2’ and the direction of Dhar.

Shetty said every frame in the film hits like a war drum. Sharing a poster of the film on his X handle on Saturday (March 21), Shetty, while tagging Madhavan, Arjun Rampal, Rakesh Bedi, Sara Arjun and Singh, wrote “‘Dhurandhar: The Revenge’ grips you from the very first scene and never lets go. Every frame hits like a war drum. This isn’t just a sequel; it’s a statement. Brilliant storytelling, brother, absolutely loved the detailing. Top-notch performances by every single artist.”

Kher praised Dhar’s directorial venture and said it wasn’t just an outstanding film but an experience and emotion.
