A decade after its original release, the acclaimed biographical drama ‘Bhaag Milkha Bhaag’ is all set to return to theatres across India on July 18, giving audiences another chance to relive the inspiring journey of one of the nation’s greatest athletes, Milkha Singh.
The announcement comes just days ahead of the film’s 10th anniversary, marking a celebratory re-release of the Farhan Akhtar-starrer, which first hit the screens in 2013. Directed by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, the film traces the life and struggles of Milkha Singh — famously known as ‘The Flying Sikh’— who rose from personal tragedy to become a legendary figure in Indian sports, earning accolades at both the Commonwealth Games and the Asian Games.
According to a PTI report, director Mehra expressed deep emotion about the film’s return to cinemas, stating, “ ‘Bhaag Milkha Bhaag’ is a very special film for me; it felt personal, a tribute to the indomitable spirit of a man who turned pain into purpose. Telling Milkha Singh ji’s story was also a big responsibility, one that reminded us that resilience, discipline, and courage can move mountains.”
He added, “Even today, the film continues to inspire, and that’s the legacy we hoped to honour. I am thrilled about the re-release of the film.”
Farhan’s transformative performance as Milkha Singh earned widespread critical acclaim at the time, and the film’s soundtrack, penned by Prasoon Joshi and composed by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, remains iconic even today.
The movie was lauded not only for its storytelling and visual style but also for its emotional depth and historical relevance.
‘Bhaag Milkha Bhaag’ was a box-office success on its original release and won multiple awards, including several Filmfare trophies.
