NDTV has announced the appointment of Aditya Raj Kaul as Senior Executive Editor, Geopolitics, National Security and Strategic Affairs at NDTV 24×7, bringing one of India’s most formidable voices in foreign affairs, defence, and strategic reporting to its newsroom.
According to a press release from NDTV, Making an impactful debut, Kaul reported on day one from Tianjin, China, covering the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chinese President Xi Jinping, and Russian President Vladimir Putin are in attendance.
With a career spanning over 15 years across leading Indian and international newsrooms, Kaul has reported from the frontlines of major global events – from the India-China LAC standoff in Ladakh and the abrogation of Article 370 in Jammu & Kashmir to the rise of ISIS in Iraq and Jordan, and India’s first Head of State visits to Israel and Palestine. He has also covered key terror attacks in Afghanistan and Pakistan, the Uttarakhand cloudburst disaster, and Maoist strikes in Chhattisgarh. Notably, he was the first journalist on the ground in Kashmir during the 2014 floods with the Indian Air Force.
Internationally, he has reported from over a dozen high-level summits, including the G20 in Australia, BRICS in China, ASEAN in Malaysia and Vietnam, and SAARC in Nepal, as well as prime ministerial and presidential visits to the United States, Germany, and Israel, among others. His access to global leaders has led to exclusive interviews with figures such as External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar, Afghan Vice President Amrullah Saleh, Australian PM Tony Abbott, Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu, and many more.
Kaul’s award-winning documentary work includes Airlift (on India’s Operation Ganga in Ukraine), Murder of an Indian Diplomat (on the killing of Ravindra Mhatre), Killed by the Taliban (on Danish Siddiqui’s death), and Bombs in Our Backyard (on a classified Army mission during the pandemic). His work has earned the Golden DigiPub World Award (2023), News Television Award (2023), the Ram Jethmalani Prize, and the Exceptional Leader of Excellence Award.
Beyond journalism, Kaul is also a respected faculty and speaker, having lectured at the Sushma Swaraj Institute of Foreign Service, Army War College, CRPF Academy, and IIM Ahmedabad. He has represented India at several global platforms, including the US State Department’s ACYPL Exchange and the ASEAN Journalists Forum.
On his appointment, Kaul said, “It is an honour to join NDTV at this important juncture. Journalism, for me, has always been about being present where history is being shaped and bringing clarity and context to events that impact millions. I look forward to contributing to NDTV’s legacy of credibility and India-first reporting.”
Rahul Kanwal, CEO and Editor-in-Chief, NDTV, added, “Aditya is among the finest in the field of strategic and international journalism. His track record – from conflict zones to global summits, from documentaries to breaking investigations – is formidable. That his very first day has taken him to Tianjin to cover one of the year’s most significant diplomatic gatherings shows his readiness and NDTV’s commitment to being at the forefront of big global stories.”
As India asserts its might on the global stage, NDTV has reaffirmed its commitment to chronicling the country’s evolving diplomacy and security landscape.
